Pediatric Ethics Consultation:

Clinical Ethics Consultation is available to the Academic Health Center (AHC) facilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Dr. Leland, a Pediatric Intensive Care Physician, and Dr. Lucia Wocial, Nurse Ethicist for IU Health and former Neonatal intensive care bedside nurse, along with the core faculty of FCME serve as the foundation of the ethics consultation service providing resources and expertise to the Pediatric community at the AHC.  This service provides analysis and a framework for ethical decision making in the provision of medical care to Pediatric patients.

PEACE Rounds:

Founded by Dr. Lucia Wocial, Nurse Ethicist for IU Health, PEACE (Pediatric Ethics and Communication Excellence) Rounds is a formal weekly discussion of Pediatric Intensive Care patients with prolonged stays and ethically challenging aspects of management aimed at reducing healthcare providers’ moral distress.  This endeavor has been well received, has positively impacted healthcare team members’ moral distress, and positively impacted patient care in the Intensive Care Units at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health.
