Dr. Leland was appointed the Director of Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics in July 2022 and has served as the Director of the Fairbanks Fellowship in Clinical Ethics since August 2017.  He completed the Fairbanks Fellowship in Clinical Ethics Fellowship with the 2014-2015 class.  Dr. Leland joined the IU School of Medicine faculty in 2016 after completing a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.  Currently, he serves as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics within the section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and serves as a Pediatric Ethicist.  As an Indiana native committed to serving the needs of his home state, Dr. Leland completed medical school, Pediatric Residency, and Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship through the Indiana University School of Medicine.

As a second generation physician, Dr. Leland gained an appreciation for the practice of medicine at an early age, with a particular interest in the care of children.  He was drawn to the field of Pediatric Critical Care where he identified Clinical Ethics to be of great significance.  Implementing his formal training and interests, Dr. Leland has been tasked with Pediatric Ethics program development for the Department of Pediatrics.
